The Hudson River is a beautiful river, adjoining the natural beauty of Riverdale Park. But Riverdalians cannot actually walk through the park to the lapping shore of the Hudson, because Amtrak trains run along the intervening train tracks. Now that the Hudson River has become almost entirely free from pollution, we should move forward to make this whole area the restored wonderland of nature it was when Henry Hudson lived. Imagine the resource of a woodsy slope below the botanical gardens of Wave Hill, leading down to the shores frequented by graceful geese afloat the waves, followed by their newborn ducklings! Imagine the delighted parents, the grateful lovers, guests from the metropolitan boroughs sung by Walt Whitman, individuals from all walks of life who would now have a place to unwind, read a book, and lift their gaze to the picturesque cliffs of lovely New Jersey on the western shore! The vision, or revision, would be heralded as on a par with the planners of Manhattan, who had the foresight to set aside that generous rectangle now celebrated as Central Park. Riverdalians, may the dale of your dreams extend down to the river in which the noble Algonquins once paddled their canoes.

May our children discover the beauty of the natural world together.
